Support Wilderness and Outdoor Leadership Education

The purpose of this Trust is to promote and support the pursuit of wilderness and outdoor education and adventures by its beneficiaries. The Trustee has complete discretion as to the distributions from this Trust, and will consider the pursuits that foster self-esteem, self-confidence, leadership, raise awareness about natural and cultural resources, as well as recreational and professional opportunities.

Wilderness challenges

The wilderness challenges and that education can be pursued through established outdoor leadership programs, including, but not limited to NOLS, Outward Bound, Rainier Mountaineering, EXUM Guides, Jackson Hole Mountain Guides or the like, and through programs and adventures developed by the grant recipient.

Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the Ryan Outdoor Leadership Trust must be direct descendants of Sally Ann Conway Ryan and Stephen W. Ryan, Sr., or Mary Maquire Shouldis and George J. Shouldis.

Awards

The awarding of grants from the Trust will, initially, be limited to $2,500 in any calendar year. The grant may be up to 50% of the cost of the wilderness program. Ideally, the cost of the applicant’s program would be paid one-third by the applicant, one-third by the applicant’s parents, and one-third by the Trust.
